Are you moving in the near future? Here is a checklist of things to expect on
moving day, from start to finish. By being prepared, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free move. Let's get started!
Things to do the day before moving
• Establish a timeline for your move. This will keep everyone organized.
• Re-read the contract of your rental unit with all occupants present. Make sure you read clause number 3 of section 5, about 'termination' of tenancy agreement.
• Print out contracts and important emails regarding your move.
• Prepare boxes and labels with room names so everything is ready for movers to arrive the next day. Also prepare a master list of what goes where for quick reference later on. Tape all boxes closed properly, use box tape or masking tape if possible.
• Pick up your keys from the landlord / building manager and return the keys given to you at the beginning of your tenancy, unless otherwise stated in your contract.
• Clean and do a final walkthrough inspection with the landlord / building manager: Check appliances, windows and doors were not broken during your stay. Make sure that window screens and security doors are installed correctly upon moving out.
